We are in the middle of KOFA Wildlife refuge
We are located 10 miles off 95 between Quartzsite and Yuma at mile marker 55. The first 3 miles are paved then 7 miles of gravel road.
I will say as an 8 year volunteer the road is not as bad as some people complain about. We have everything from smart cars to Lincoln’s come in.
It’s 30 miles to the Foothills where you can get all your supplies and 40 to Yuma proper.
All power is solar, you have electricity, water and sewer. Solar was updated in 2024.
No smoking or vaping in the museum or out in the desert. Fire would be devastating. Please reserve that for your lot.
Dogs must be leashed because there is wildlife everywhere so for your dog’s protection and the wildlife, to keep everyone safe.
All this for 3 days of volunteering to help keep Our Museum open.
We need people to welcome guests, open and close the museum on your workdays.
We have a guided mine tour of a one-of-a-kind fluorescent mine. Geologists say this should not exist.
Speaking as someone that did mine tours for three years, I saw hundreds of people overwhelmed by the spectacular colors and never had anybody disappointed.
Would like Four Food Trailer Operators.
We also have a guided tour of the Hull mine.
There also is light cleaning and possible light repairs.
You will find this is not your usual museum. The buildings are open so visitors can enter them for close inspection of the old artifacts.
The non-profit operates by people dedicated to preserving the history that was saved from the desert.
The owners have lived on site for since the 1990s.
We exist on what comes through the door and donations.
We have no grants, state or otherwise because we don’t want others to tell us how to run Our Museum.
So, with a great team of volunteers, we manage to maintain our equipment and repairs to keep the museum open for people to enjoy themselves!
Any questions or problems on site please talk to either Allen or Stephanie.
Also, Sharon or I are available to answer questions.
